OUR PROGRAM
THE BASICS
ChildRoots is a day care and preschool dedicated to providing superior childcare for children ages six weeks to six years in Portland, Oregon.
We see each child as an authentic, powerful individual. Our teachers are trained to provide a consistent, center-wide experience focused on social and emotional development, language acquisition, building self-esteem, and fostering a sense of wonder. Our awe-inspiring classrooms are designed to provoke curiosity, encourage inquiry, and allow for movement. Classrooms are child-focused: everything visible to children is available for their use, and the materials are continually adapted to suit their developmental needs and interests.
HOURS OF OPERATION
Currently all schools are open from 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
We offer a full-time (Monday-Friday) enrollment schedule only.
COHORTS & Preschool for All
We are excited to announce that our Southeast and Northeast schools will participate in Multnomah County's Preschool for All (PFA) program beginning this September 2025! With this significant shift in our preschool programming, we are adapting our curriculum and classroom structures to meet the standards set forth by the PFA program.
To ensure alignment with Multnomah County's PFA requirements, we will maintain one designated PFA classroom at each participating location. These classrooms will exclusively serve children selected by the county for participation in the program. Our commitment is to uphold the high standards of care, education, and development outlined by PFA while maintaining the core values and philosophy that define our approach at ChildRoots.
Our cohort model plays a central role in supporting child development and fostering strong community connections among families. Infant and toddler classrooms are organized based on a six-month age range, from the youngest to the oldest child in each room. Children enrolled in a cohort remain with the same group of peers until preschool. Infants who enroll with us as young babies graduate into preschool with their cohort, promoting strong friendships and consistent social development. The continuity of these cohorts allows families to build a supportive network with others who have children learning and growing at a similar developmental pace. This enrollment approach supports the continuity of friendships and relationships, requiring families to make a long-term commitment to our school.
Preschool classrooms feature a two-year age range, ensuring developmental appropriateness in learning activities and social interactions. Cohorts are organized into groups of 3-5 years. When a cohort of 5-year-olds graduates to kindergarten at the end of August, the oldest toddlers transition into these preschool spaces, joining the 4-year-olds. This smooth transition supports continued development and maintains the integrity of the cohort model.
We are enthusiastic about the opportunities the Preschool for All program brings to our Southeast and Northeast schools and look forward to continuing to provide high-quality, child-centered education to our families. Our team remains committed to supporting each child’s development through consistent relationships, thoughtful transitions, and a community-focused approach to learning.
