COMMUNITY EVENTS
We offer five community events each year that celebrate our schools, the seasons, and our community. These events are significant in the lives of the children enrolled here, but they are also enriching for our teachers and parents.
LANTERN WALK
The Lantern Walk is one of our most popular traditions. ChildRoots’ families and teachers meet at a park where paper luminaries light a windy path through the canopied part of the forest. Musicians sit under trees with violin, drum and guitar; serenading children as they collect treasures from their favorite teachers. The end of the path leads to fire dancers, who delight spectators both young and old.
WINTER CELEBRATION OF LIGHT
Our Winter Celebration of Light is a sweet and magical event. To greet the winter, ChildRoots’ friends, their families and teachers come together to celebrate the arrival of winter and the impending darkness, while also celebrating the light that is to come back in the spring. Friends will walk a Winter Spiral of greenery and light to symbolize the exiting and re-entering of the sun/light as the winter season comes and goes. We will be celebrating the turning point in the year when the days are their shortest and the nights their longest and we will look for the light which comes from within us all.
MARCH DRUM MARCH
We welcome spring with our in classroom March Drum March. During the weeks leading up the the event, the children read the Story of the Root Children, create their own Root Children costumes, and learn songs to be shared with families during the event - a short, sweet event to usher in the new season.
DAY AT THE PARK
Day At The Park is a laid-back event where families and teachers come together at a nearby park for picnicking, play, and music.
PRESCHOOL GRADUATION
Preschool Graduation is a bittersweet goodbye to all the children who have grown with us. We honor families and their commitment to us, celebrate our children’s growth and achievements as they embark on their next big adventure in kindergarten, and give thanks to our teachers.
